5 Questions for Metro Pups’ owner Tamisha Gastelu

Today we want to introduce you to the lovely Tamisha Gastelu. She and her husband own Metro Pups, a doggie daycare near the Ossining Metro North Train Station. It was fun to spend an hour with them and learn all the things they are doing for the community (like a scholarship for high school students!) and the plans they have for the future: they are me moving to a new and improved – but very close – location by the train station.

We heard Tamisha talk about her business in early 2019 at Ossining Innovate’s Meet the Entrepreneur Next Door. Listening to her speak was inspiring. She exudes passion for creating the best possible environment for her doggy clientele, and making their owners feel great about leaving their dogs at Metro Pups. She truly cares, and it shows.

1. Tell us a bit about you.

My Name is Tamisha Gastelu, I was born and raised in Ossining. I’m married to my husband Chris and we have a 2 month old daughter. Prior to working with dogs, I worked in finance for almost 10 years. I always had a passion to do more.

Tamisha Gastelu,

2. Tell us about your business.

Metro Pups started when we could no longer continue to provide private care and in-home pet sitting because we had too many loveable pups to care for and not enough hours in the day. So we thought if we could find a location where everyone can come to us, we could take care of more pups and have a more fluent schedule. A lot of our clients take the Metro North, so I knew we had to be by the train to provide easy access. The name “Metro Pups” seemed perfect!

It’s our philosophy that if we have a 1 on 1 relationship with each pup we have a clear understanding of how they will do in our pack.

We currently provide Doggie Daycare, Extended Care, and full grooming services.

3. Why did you decide to open your business in Ossining?

We decided on Ossining because it felt like home for me. I see my pups all around town, I see parents in the same stores and places we frequent and we found a real sense of community here.

4. For someone not familiar with your business: what product/service do you suggest they try and why?

I recommend trying a day of daycare. We offer the first day free of charge to make sure your pup actually likes it and feels comfortable. We introduce pups in our pack 1 at a time to reduce anxiety.

5. Give us your best Ossining tip or recommendation.

My Ossining tip is to try Manna Food Center on spring street. It is my hidden gem of fresh fruits, butchered meat, and fresh Boars Head sandwiches, as well as a full grocery store. When you don’t feel like going to the big food chains this store is right in town and they treat you like family!
