Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Company Community Dance Project

Join the creative process with the BTJ/AZ Company!

The world renowned Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company will be back in residence at Bethany Arts Community during the month of June. They’re seeking volunteers to participate in the creative process of the company’s latest work. Participants will be asked to join in the process of making and sharing; in creating community with the members of the BTJ/AZ Company, Associate Artistic Director Janet Wong and Artistic Director Bill T. Jones. This is a rare opportunity to work closely with a master of post-modern dance, a man who has received every award available to him, who believes in the world of ideas and wants to find out what Ossining’s community can bring to the project.

Date: Saturday, June 15, 2019
Time: 1:00-5:00pm
Where: Joseph Caputo Community Center, 95 Broadway, Ossining, NY 10562

You can REGISTER HERE

Participants should be Ages 16-75. No dance experience required. However, backgrounds in movement (martial arts, dance, gymnastics, sports, walking, even gardening, just to name a few!) would be ideal. You’ll be in movement, so please dress accordingly!

This community workshop will begin with the simple tasks of sharing your name, your heritage, and your dreams for the future, which will then connect with the movement sourced by the individuals from the workshop. There will be exercises in avoiding confrontation, redirecting and trusting. You will follow, lead, and find the space in between those distinctions. The tasks will grow as the individuals in the room become more open, more vulnerable to their own artistic ability and to those around them. We need people to join us to help understand what loneliness is, how loneliness can be experienced inside such a large group. Where is the salvation in finding a community? What is the difference between understanding and empathy?

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
