Brothers Fish and Chips is one of my favorite restaurants in Ossining. The takeout location opened in 2011, and in 2015 they expanded to the location next door to include a restaurant and bar. I still can’t believe it when Ossining residents tell me they haven’t tried Elmer’s amazing culinary creations. His plates are fresh, beautiful and incredibly delicious, and we are so lucky to have such a gem of a restaurant in our town!
1. Hi Elmer! Tell us a bit about you.
My name is Elmer Oliveros. I was born and raised in Guatemala, and I came to Ossining in 2006.
I come from a family that’s passionate about food and it’s hard to find a lousy cook among them. Food has always been my passion, but one day I realized that my style did not fit within Hispanic cuisine or any other, and that’s when I understood I needed to find another way to introduce my food.
2. Tell us about your business.
In 2011 my family and I bought the fish and chips takeout and gradually started introducing our version of fish and chips to Ossining and its surroundings. We were featured on Restaurant Hunter and became more popular throughout Westchester.
Demand increased and the takeout area wasn’t large enough to supply it. I had many ideas I wanted to share with everyone, so I decided to extend the place by creating a small, welcoming seating area right next to our takeout location. Here we have a seasonal menu and let the magic flow with our fresh wild seafood and vegetables sourced from our local Fable farm.
3. What do you like about running your business in Ossining?
I love Ossining and its diversity and always believed in its high potential for businesses. We are very proud to be part of such a fantastic community; it deserves the best, and we humbly strive to provide it. We only employ local people and currently have eight employees who happily help to execute a great dining experience for our customers.
4. For someone not familiar with your business: what plate do you suggest they try and why?
For those who are not familiar with us and our food, I recommend trying our Fish and Chips, and fish tacos from either the takeout or the restaurant. If they’re looking for a flavor experience, then the chef tasting menu is a must.
5. Give us your best Ossining tip or recommendation.
I love taking a walk by the Hudson River and enjoy the beautiful scenic views with a cortado from First Village Coffee. I also love the arepas de choclo (corn) from Así Es Colombia.
Thank you Elmer!
