5 Questions for Dragonfly Wellness Yoga Studio’s owner Kendra Rossney

Kendra Rossney has been a yoga practitioner for the better part of 20 years. She received her 200-Hour Kripalu Yoga Teacher certificate after taking an immersion training at the Kripalu Center in the beautiful Berkshires of Massachusetts. Starting at 5 years old, Kendra was exposed to and worked with energy healing under the guide and watchful eye of her grandmother, Petra Valentine Negron. Kendra is also a Reiki Master, an Ossining native and the owner of Dragonfly Wellness Yoga Studio.

1. Hi Kendra! Tell us a bit about you.

ME?!?  First, I am HILARIOUS!  Seriously, I am the second funniest person I know.  I like to laugh and have random outbursts of dancing just because I think we all take this crazy thing called life WAY too seriously at times and we forget the good stuff… laughing and dancing as a prime example.

I have 4 children – 2 of them are “grown” (24 and 22) and 2 of them are “young people” (10 and almost 9).  THAT provides for a great opportunity to maintain my sense of humor.  HA!  I also have a dog and a cat… my life is pretty full.

I like to spend time with friends, catch some live music, LOVE a good cuppa coffee at my fave local spot, First Village Coffee. There isn’t much more “free time” in my life so I guess that will wrap that up because past that, I am at the studio 🙂

2. Tell us about your business.

I have been in business now for 5 years.  I came to it by way of climbing the corporate ladder and after 15 years of being in corporate America, came to realize that my job did little to feed my heart or my purpose.  We are a Yoga studio, for sure, but we are more than that.  We are a wellness center offering: Reiki, Acupuncture, Facials and Massage.  We are a community of like-minded people who want members of our community to feel the healing power of loving yourself and taking good care of your body, mind and spirit.

One of the mantras that we use here is “It’s not that serious, it’s just Yoga” because we want to eliminate this idea that anyone has to be in top physical or spiritual shape in order to benefit from this OMazing practice.  My clients know they are welcome here at ANY time… many of them even arrive before I do and let themselves in to unwind before class… that is encouraged and welcomed!

3. Why did you decide to open your business in Ossining?

I was born and raised in Ossining and moved back here in 2005.  For me, there was no other option other than to have my business here in the town that helped me grow into the woman I am today.  I love the idea of giving this beautiful wellness center back to the community and sharing the gifts of healing with other people who call Ossining home.

4. For someone not familiar with your business: what product/service do you suggest they try and why?

I would suggest that they try ALL the things!  HA!!  Seriously though, try Yoga!  It is a life changer. Yoga affords you the opportunity to meet yourself with compassion and love and more deeply appreciate all the gifts of yourself.

As far as off the mat services, I can say with confidence that I have some of the best practitioners I have ever worked with in their respective fields.  My massage therapist also works with flower essences (that she makes) and is deeply intuitive and tailors your session to your needs.  The esthetician doesn’t just work with the skin but dives into layers of the energy body with her strong and compassionate presence.  My acupuncturist is simply brilliant and holds space in a way that, for me, has been unmatched by any other acupuncturist I have worked with.  I have found layers of healing with all of them that I have not found EVER on my path.

5. Give us your best Ossining tip or recommendation.

I mentioned it earlier but First Village Coffee is my JAM!  What I would tell someone new to Ossining is to get out into the community.  We have beautiful and amazing people who live here with some of the biggest hearts around!  This community holds each other up and supports each other with fierce love!  Get connected and your heart will thank you!
