Lace-up your boots and join one of our Teatown educators in our women’s hiking club! All welcome, whether novice or experienced. Expand your horizons, learn more about nature, and bond with fellow female hikers. Each week we will hike a different Teatown trail and make plans for new territory to explore.
PlantFest brings it all together: abundant plant varieties (natives, perennials, annuals, herbs and vegetables), expert helpers and over a dozen complementary vendors offering everything from jewelry and ceramics to handmade wooden bowls and kayaks, farm-to-table produce and artisanal breads, herbal vinegars and bee creams – even knife and tool-sharpening. This year, two fun food trucks will be at PlantFest to serve lunch from 11 – 2.
The alarm is sounding—it’s time to wake up from winter’s slumber! The wetlands and woodlands are sounding off with twittering, peeping, and knocking. Listen up as we hike the trails to hear what the fuss is all about.

American eels are migratory fish that are hatched in the Atlantic Ocean and enter rivers as tiny “glass eels” each spring. The species is in decline over much of its range, and baseline studies are needed for conservation. Teams of citizen scientists collect glass eels using nets and traps in over a dozen Hudson River tributaries from Staten Island to Troy. Teatown educator Marie Roche will explain how juvenile fish are counted, weighed, and released to better upstream habitats, often above dams, and how you can help protect this critical species by joining the Eel Project as a volunteer. The information gathered is compiled and sent to The National Audubon Society which uses the information to monitor trends in populations and other conservation issues that impact avian health.
