I met Cari recently because we are both members of the SpeakEasy coworking space on Main Street. We talked for a while about her business, and I’ve since enjoyed some of her beautiful holiday-themed sugar cookies. Cari exudes a passion for creating unique treats that will excite and delight her clients. She’s been baking her whole life, and her experience shows! If you’re looking for custom sweets for a birthday, holiday party, or other gathering, you can get them right here in Ossining.
1. Hi Cari! Tell us a bit about you.
I am originally from Westchester, raised in Yonkers and moved with my family to Ossining about 10 years ago. My husband and I got married in Ossining and have a one-year-old son (Leo) and 2 pups (Cici and Hudson). Our extended family lives in Ossining as well.
In my spare time when I’m not in the kitchen baking, I like to spend time with family and friends. Being with friends and family is something dear to me, especially now that I have a family of my own. I love creating new memories either by going for a walk with my family and the pups, attending a local outdoor festival with my nieces and nephew, or hosting a game night with friends and neighbors. Time is precious, especially when owning a small business and being a new mom. I’ve learned along the way that when a moment presents itself to stop and have a little fun, you need to take advantage!
2. Tell us about your business.
I am a self-taught baker. I always loved making treats for people. When I was a little girl, I would bake with my mom and bring what I baked to my neighbors when they got home from work. The love that was instilled in me by my mother still grows and now gets passed along to my family, friends and clients.
And what exactly do I do? Have you ever seen a sweets table at a party with all sorts of baked goods and candies? That’s what I create for my customers. I bake for events ranging from birthday parties, showers, corporate events, fundraisers, and private parties. The range of items that I bake extends from cupcakes to decorated sugar cookies, cake pops, edible party favors, and more!
Doing this for over seven years, my goal for each client is to make each order personal. Blending in my clients’ unique personalities and visions for their events and making sweets to match that vision is the most exciting and rewarding thing about what I do!
3. What about your business do you pride yourself on, and what plans do you have for the future?
What makes me proudest of what I do is the relationships that form and develop between me and my customers, during and after delivery of my services. It’s the reason why I love having a business in Ossining. It’s knowing that I have a support group of diverse and growing families. Ossining has provided a safe place for me to grow. It’s a wonderful community to be a part of and deserves nothing but the best to grow to its fullest potential.
Being a cottage-owned bakery, my plan is to eventually open up a brick and mortar shop here in Ossining to serve my community that has supported me thus far.
4. For someone not familiar with your business: what product do you suggest they try and why?
To get a “taste” for what we have to offer, I would suggest starting with our paint-your-own cookie. This product is truly customizable with any shape and drawing. Each cookie comes with an edible paint pallet and paintbrush where kids and adults can paint their cookie and then eat their creation. It makes for the perfect party activity or party favor.
5. Give us your best Ossining tip or recommendation.
Being a new mom, Penny & Ting is my go-to shop when trying to find something new and exciting to entertain my little one. I also love going down to the waterfront with my family and the pups.
Thank you Cari for answering our questions!
