David Garcia knows what he’s doing. He’s been a trainer for 31 years, and talking to him about fitness isn’t scary at all (am I the only one scared to talk with personal trainers about exercise?).
He focuses on small group training and welcomes clients to his studio for 3 classes each morning and 3 each afternoon. He also offers outdoor classes at the Ossining High School field and a few times a year takes his clients out for fun adventures like hikes and kayaking.
What makes David different from other fitness options? His methods are a hybrid of different fitness models, customized to each client. David helps his clients reach their fitness goals by leading them in varied but targeted workouts, teaching and embodying consistency, and empowering them outside the gym to eat well, stay focused and stay the course. He’s a results-based trainer. His clients get results and tell their friends, which accounts for how he’s been able to sustain and grow his business without much advertising!
Here are 5 Questions for Ossining business owner David Garcia:
1. Hi David! Please tell us a bit about you.
I’ve been in the fitness industry for 31 years and I’m just as passionate now as to when I started. Helping others with fitness goals, building awareness and confidence continues to be my focus. I’m originally from the Bronx and developed my skills working in New York City for half of my career.
2. What do you do in your spare time?
I have 4 AMAZING children that I think about all the time:) In my free time I often participate in Spartan Races and I just completed my 2nd 90-mile canoe race at the Adirondack Canoe Classic!
3. What’s the history of your business?
Fitness has been in my life since my childhood. Once I realized my passion for fitness along with my ability to coach people, I knew it was a perfect fit (hence 31 years). I’ve lived in Ossining for about 14 years now. Coming from the city and moving to a town gave me the opportunity to open up my own fitness business.
4. What services do you offer?
At G.E.M. Fitness Systems I offer small group training and personal training. We have sessions outdoors along with going on hikes, kayaking and participating in Spartan Races as a team (NOT REQUIRED).
The most important message I deliver to clients and prospective clients is that I take pride in teaching them. Just training a client isn’t enough. I focus on teaching them how to add quality to their workouts as well as understanding how to train.
5. Give us your best tip(s) for Ossining!
For a GREAT cup of coffee and a cool place to be I recommend First Village Coffee. Looking for AMAZING seafood, great drinks and remarkable presentation? Go to Brothers Fish and Chips. And Ossining Bakery!…FRESH and mmmm.
Thank you David! It was a lot of fun talking with you about fitness and about Ossining!
